◇九澄博士 [Kuzumi Hiroshi]:
Age 15. Protagonist. An average boy with glasses. However, it seems he is very popular in class ever since he moved to Jouga. No matter where he goes in the town, everyone greets
him with a smile. He is very protective of his sister Mana because he blames himself for her current predicament. His name is spelt Hakase, but is pronounced Hiroshi.

◇九澄マナ [Kuzumi Mana]:
Age 12. Hiroshi's sister. Due to an accident some years back, she lost the use of her legs and has been in a wheelchair ever since. For the same reason, her mother Miyuki also left the
family due to the traumatic emotional experience she suffered at seeing Mana in the hospital. She is quick thinking and understanding of others despite her age.

◇九澄正明 [Kuzumi Masaaki]:
Age 46. The father and head of the Kuzumi household. A very nice and laid back man whose occupation is a novelist. He spends most of his time in his study when working. The
Kuzumi family moves to the town of Jouga due to his interest in the town's myths and old history.

◇摘花五十鈴 [Tsumuhana Isuzu]:
Age 15. Hiroshi's nextdoor neighbour and classmate, she is a nice but extremely hyper tensioned and comical young girl who Hiroshi describes as a berserker angel. She believes that she
has indeed fell into love at first sight upon seeing Hiroshi on the day of his arrival. Ever since, she has been extremely friendly to Hiroshi. Isuzu uses "boku" to refer to herself. The chime
of the bell on her bracelet usually notifies of her arrival.

◇朝霧かなめ [Asagiri Kaname]:
Age 16. Isuzu's best friend and Hiroshi's classmate. A nice and refined young lady who hides a very perceptive mind and smart mouth behind the smile on her face. She is usually friendly
but can be very scary when angered. A mystery maniac and a member of the school's library. She calls Hiroshi "Hakase-kun" because she thinks it is cute though she doesn't really
understand what makes Isuzu like Hiroshi so much.

◇櫛名田眠 [Kushinada Nemuru]:
Age 15. The quiet and mysterious girl, and class rep of Hiroshi's class. She speaks very little, and always shows a very cold demeanor as if she is purposely
trying to distance herself from her peers. She is the only daughter of the Kushinada family, the ruling clan of Jouga.

◇賢木儁一郎 [Sakaki Shunichirou]:
Age 25. A mysterious young man who has started living in Jouga recently in order to solve the town's mystery and find the culprit who had murdered his friend.

◇真那香織 [Mana Kaori]:
Age 21. A nice young lady who is also the daughter of a famous violinist couple. She herself is an adept violinist and lives alone in a giant mansion in the Old District. She is
currently taking time off from university supposedly due to health issues.

◇摘花一誠 [Tsumuhara Issei]:
Age 19. Isuzu's elder brother and student of Jouga University. He has a very carefree and teasing personality and treasures his sister greatly. He is supposedly very popular with the girls
in town, and is rumoured to have a fanclub dedicated to him.

★黄泉比良坂編 [Yomibirazaka Arc]
The first arc. It introduces most of the characters, the setting and reveals enough to show the dark side of the town of Jouga yet leaves most questions unanswered. This arc has only
one ending with no real story branches so .

◇死 [Death] (BAD END) After he finds a corpse rent to shreds by crows in an abandoned construction area, Hiroshi is captured by the Ookami and is grudgingly killed because of the
        trouble he is unknowingly causing the people of Jouga.


★五色塚編 鬼宿りの章 [Goshikizuka Arc - Oni Dwelling Chapter]
One day, Isuzu confesses her love to Hiroshi, but later on the same day Hiroshi is tricked by an afflicted Issei, narrowly escaping with his life. He finds out the next day that Issei has
"moved out" and develops a relationship with Isuzu in an unconscious act of pity who had lost her brother. As Hiroshi spends more time with Isuzu, her condition starts to worsen...

◇黒猫 [Black Cat] (BAD END) Hiroshi decides not to visit Isuzu in the nurse's office. On his way back to school late in the evening after helping Kaname in the library, he is
                            commenting on how scary the dark alleyways are and pondered the possibly of monsters. He is killed by Isuzu after he becomes distracted by a black cat
                            who is also wearing a bell collar.

◇罹患 [Contraction] (BAD END) Hiroshi stays in the nurse's office with Isuzu, who being afflicted with the condition, loses control of herself and gives him a kiss that never ever ends.

◇狂気[Madness] (BAD END) Hiroshi has a meeting with Isuzu in the park in the evening. Just when they comment how it is so desolate and lonely in the night, Nemuru appears to confront
                          Isuzu. In the argument that ensues, Isuzu holds onto Hiroshi so tightly that it starts to help him. Nemuru tries hard to persuade Isuzu to stop, and tells
                          Hiroshi to do the same. Hiroshi agrees with Nemuru instead that Isuzu needs to calm down but is stabbed and killed by Isuzu when she hears him, believing
                          her "prince" has betrayed her. Nemuru manages to fend Isuzu off and possibly kills her. As he dies, Hiroshi stares blankly into the night sky as Nemuru gazes down on him.

◇凶行 [Violence] (TRUE END) Hiroshi has a meeting with Isuzu in the park in the evening. Just when they comment how it is so desolate and lonely in the night, Nemuru appears to confront
                           Isuzu. In the argument that ensues, Isuzu holds onto Hiroshi so tightly that it starts to help him. Nemuru tries hard to persuade Isuzu to stop, and tells Hiroshi to do
                           the same. Hiroshi tries to persuade in his own way to Isuzu that no matter what happens, he'll always be on her side, and that he will trust her no matter the outcome.
                           Isuzu starts going mad, realizing what she is doing. She pulls out a knife and comes to the realization that it was not love that is causing her to behave like this, and
                           that it was all Hiroshi's fault. She proceeds on Hiroshi, but he never wavered, and gave his full trust that, the real Isuzu will not harm him. Seeing Hiroshi and his true
                           devotion, Isuzu slits her own throat. Coming back to her senses, she apologizes to Nemuru and Hiroshi, that he was not at fault. She dies in his arms with a peaceful
                           smile. Hiroshi, unaccepting of her fate, vows to find out the truth behind the events that is the cause of her death.


★五色塚編 狼面宿儺の章 [Goshizuka Arc - Wolf Mask Dwelling Exorcism Chapter]
After the barbecue event, Hiroshi starts to realize that he is being followed. He asks Nemuru for advice who responds to him that if he is so worried, he should either
stop going out in the evening or find ways to fend for himself. Late one night, he is assaulted by a masked man with crazed eyes. Hiroshi is saved just in time by someone else. His
saviour goes by the name of Sakaki Shunichirou.

◇解体 [Dissection] (BAD END) Hiroshi & Shunichirou witnesses the Ookami at work at night, with the scythe bearer striking down a student of his school. They escape but Hiroshi
                             insists on reporting to the police while Shunichirou stresses the need to escape before the Ookami notice. Shunichirou leaves Hiroshi in exasperation after some
                             arguing. The Ookami then arrives to capture Hiroshi but Shunichirou comes back to save him, only to be stabbed himself. Hiroshi is then killed and his body
                             dissected by the Ookami probably in order to find a cure for the inhabitants of Jouga.

◇光陰 [Time] (BAD END) Hiroshi & Shunichirou witnesses the Ookami at work at night, with the scythe bearer striking down a student of his school. They escape but Hiroshi
                             insists on reporting to the police while Shunichirou stresses the need to escape before the Ookami notice. Shunichirou leaves Hiroshi in exasperation after some
                             arguing. The Ookami then arrives to capture Hiroshi but Shunichirou comes back to save him, only to be stabbed himself. Just when the Ookami are about to finish
                             Hiroshi off, Nemuru arrives and cuts down the Ookami. She warns him that he is being targetted, and that he should leave immediately and forget what happened. Hiroshi
                             goes home but soon develops a fever in the coming days, even missing the Hassaku Festival. When he returned to school, he notices a change in his classmates'
                             attitudes around him. Nemuru later brings him to the hospital, where they find out he has become a Kamibito. Hiroshi was shocked but took it all in, though finding out that
                             Isuzu was culled had devastated him. He later finds out that Kaname was also turned into a Kamibito, but she was in a much worse emotional state than he is.
                             Friendless, Hiroshi tries to adapt to his new way of life. However, it was futile as each day becomes more and more unbearable with all the scents around him.
                             Eventually, he commits suicide by jumping off the roof of the school.

◇始末 [Settlement] (BAD END) Hiroshi attempts to commit suicide by jumping off the school roof after he became a Kamibito and was wrought with despair from the desolation and the
                             frustrations of his new way of living, however Nemuru stops him, telling him that if he gives up, everything is lost. Moved by her words, he decided to try living again.
                             However, one night he finds one of his old pre-Kamibito mufflers that he somehow did not get rid of. Lured by the scent, he could not let go, and his mind gave into
                             impulse. Mana enters the room to tell Hiroshi dinner is ready, but Hiroshi could not resist his body. Hiroshi died that night.

◇哀幕 [Curtain of Sorrow] (BAD END) Hiroshi & Shunichirou witnesses the Ookami at work at night, with the scythe bearer striking down a student of his school. They escape and part ways
                             without being followed. Hiroshi goes home but soon develops a fever in the coming days, even missing the Hassaku Festival. When he returned to school, he notices
                             a change in his classmates' attitudes around him. Nemuru later brings him to the hospital, where they find out he has become a Kamibito. Hiroshi was shocked but took
                             it all in, though finding out that Isuzu was culled had devastated him. He later finds out that Kaname was also turned into a Kamibito, but she was in a much worse

                             Hiroshi bled to his death.

◇末路 [End] (TRUE END) Hiroshi & Shunichirou witnesses the Ookami at work at night, with the scythe bearer striking down a student of his school. They escape and part ways without
                             being followed. Hiroshi goes home but soon develops a fever in the coming days, even missing the Hassaku Festival. When he returned to school, he notices a

                             Shunichirou's presence for sometime, but had not known he had gone this far. Hiroshi was eventually inducted into the security squads, and they eventually manage
                             to surround Shunichirou in the mountains. He manages to would or kill many members of the squads, and by the time Hiroshi arrived, he faced off with Nemuru and her
                             scythe. Shunichirou points his gun at Nemuru but...


★五色塚編 双奏輪廻の章 [Goshikizuka Arc - Samsara of the Twin Players Chapter]
Hiroshi spends most of his time with Mana, bringing her around outside to get to know their new town better. They meet a young and lovely violinist by the name of
Kaori who they befriend. Mana, charmed by her, decides to spend her time with her newfound friend. They find out that Kaori is a famous person but has stopped going to
university for health related issues. Mana visits Kaori often, and Kaori begins teaching Mana how to play the violin.

◇失踪 [Disappearance] (BAD END) Hiroshi allows Mana to visit Kaori unattended. One day on her way back, Mana meets up with one of her school friends, who she decided to take
                                    a walk with. However that friend apparently gave her an "adult kiss". Mana was troubled at first but thought less of it later, though it seemed from that day
                                    onward she acted a bit differently than before. Another day when she went back home during her violin lessons, Kaori was with her as well. Kaori warned Hiroshi
                                    that Mana might begin to see him in a different light, that of a man rather than of a brother. Mana's mood swings begin to change and went up and down. One day
                                    when Hiroshi came back from school, she was not at home, and was never seen again. Kaori also disappeared without notice and could not be reached.

◇寂寞 [Desolation] (BAD END) Kaori's "move out of town" without notice and without a new forward address has shocked Hiroshi and Mana. Mana, who was so attached to Kaori
                             never talked with anyone outside of the family again. She lived in sadness from that day forth.

◇拉致 [Abduction] (BAD END) Deciding to travel with Mana everytime she visited Kaori out of concern for her wellbeing, Hiroshi was eventually kidnapped by the Ookami while on his way to
                            pick Mana up, who had been monitored in his unchanging actions. For a month, he was imprisoned in a luxurious room, full of magazines and video games to keep him
                            from being bored. He was eventually released and he is reunited with his family. However, when he was wondering why Mana wasn't going to the violin lessons, he was
                            told by Mana that Kaori suddenly "moved out of town" without any notice a few days before. Mana, who was so attached to Kaori never talked with anyone outside of
                            the family again. She lived in sadness from that day forth.

◇悲痛 [Pathos] (BAD END) Despite having a great time together, Kaori's illness took a turn for the worse and decided to stop Mana's violin lessons. Kaori phones and lets Mana
                          know that she won't be able to see her again because she will be moving to live in a faraway hospital. Mana tries to hurry but is stopped at the long steps.
                          Hiroshi, unable to find Mana, returns home, only to know later from the hospital that Mana has been hospitalized. She had apparently been found lying at the steps
                          unconscious. Mana continues to stay in the hospital, unwaking in her coma, and unable to read Kaori's letter that eventually reached them.

◇面影 [Vestige] (TRUE END) Despite having a great time together, Kaori's illness took a turn for the worse and decided to stop Mana's violin lessons. Kaori phones and lets Mana
                          know that she won't be able to see her again because she will be moving to live in a faraway hospital. Mana tries to hurry to Kaori but is stopped at the long steps.
                          Hiroshi finds her and brings her to Kaori's home but they were already too late. Later, they receive a letter, and the violin from Kaori that thanked them and that if
                          Mana wishes to continue her violin lessons, she can go meet the persons provided in the letter, and that should she want to, that she use her violin as well. Mana,
                          despite losing a great friend, continues living her life, practicing the violin by herself in Kaori's special place in the forest.


★五色塚編 月痕艶女の章 [Goshikizuka Arc - Enrapturing Girl of the Moon Chapter]
This chapter is Nemuru heavy, and reveals most of the secrets behind the town of Jouga, why people are being attacked, and who the Ookami who hunts the afflicted people are.

◇座敷牢 [Confinement Room] (BAD END) Hiroshi, despite Nemuru's warnings, gives them little thought. A few days later, due to his cold, he was staying at the nurse's office. However
                                             he needed to use the washroom but the closest one was the staff toilet. Inside, he meets Washiu Miyuki, his (male) homeroom teacher. Miyuki, unable
                                             to suppress his impulses, tastes Hiroshi's lips who was disgusted but could not repel his attacker. When Hiroshi returned to class, no one seemed to want
                                             to care for him. Nemuru, realizing he has lost his fragrance, brings him to her uncle to be diagnosed. However, Hiroshi would not accept the truth that he has
                                             become a Kamibito. Troubled, Nemuru asks for him to be transferred to confinement, until he accepts his new identity. Hiroshi would be stuck in confinement,
                                             unaccepting of reality.

◇大爆発 [Great Explosion] (BAD END) Though Nemuru and Hiroshi survives Shunichirou's ordeal, and Juuzou rescues them with members of the Ookami, they were tricked and Shunichirou
                                    traps them once again. However, Shunichirou, impressed by Hiroshi, gives them one last chance. Putting Hiroshi at the wheel, though tied down, he gives him a
                                    few minutes to try and loosen his ropes before he sets the truck running full speed at a gas station, with both Nemuru and Juuzou in the container compartment.
                                    However, the few minutes was not enough, but Juuzou breaks the glass between and hands him a knife as soon as the truck starts running. Despite that, it was not
                                    enough, and to make matters worse, Hiroshi spots Isuzu and Mana out in the streets before them, searching for him. He loses time trying to warn them as the truck
                                    speeds towards them, and the gas station. At the last moment, he narrowly misses them, but the truck smashes into the gas station. Hiroshi smashes face first
                                    into the ground out of the truck, bleeding terribly and fatally wounded. His last thoughts that he didn't want to die and how cruel and unfair the world is.

◇戦利品 [Spoils of War] (TRUE END) Though Nemuru and Hiroshi survives Shunichirou's ordeal, and Juuzou rescues them with members of the Ookami, they were tricked and Shunichirou
                                    traps them once again. However, Shunichirou, impressed by Hiroshi, gives them one last chance. Putting Hiroshi at the wheel, though tied down, he gives him a

                                    Hiroshi could only move his legs and his mouth to try to use the clutch and steer the wheel. In the end they narrowly miss smashing into the gas station, though
                                    Hiroshi flies face first out the truck from the driver's seat and faces heavy injuries. However, he recovers, and so does Nemuru. Hiroshi will stay in the hospital
                                    a little longer. With the fall arriving, his scent is no longer anywhere as strong as during the summer. Nemuru visits him at his hospital bed, and Hiroshi jokes that
                                    he really wouldn't minding giving his "mitsu" to Nemuru.


★復習奔流編 [Fukushuu Honryuu Arc]
4 years ago, Sakaki Shunichirou was a different person, with a different name. He loved a girl by the name of Shinju Mieko. She died in Jouga, apparently branded as an Offender.
Shunichirou witnessed the scene of her scattered corpse, but knew without a doubt it was her from the cheap ring he gave her on her finger. Now Sakaki Shunichirou returns, but plots
revenge. He has to find clues to the culprit who murdered his beloved and just when he thought he was on the right trail, he met a girl who looked like his dead lover. Her name, is
Mana Kaori.

◇復習 [Revenge] (TRUE END) Unable to bring Mieko back, and unable to save Kaori from her fate to become a Hakurou Kannon, Shunichirou spent a whole month surveying the landscape
                            around the town of Jouga while hiding from the authorities for the murder of a night guard and the kidnapping of Kushinada Shigetsugu. Using whatever money he had left,
                            he bought dynamites and set them in specific places, rigging them all up as time bombs. With the last of the gas he had left in his car, he attempts to drive back to
                            Kaori's old home when he was stopped by a police patrol. He was asked to follow them in the patrol car, where he revealed his plans, and comments that in the heavy rain
                            and typhoon weather it would be impossible for Jouga to defend a landslide of that scale. The policemen, hearing that and seeing the timer he revealed in Kaori's lunchbox,
                            attempts to arrest him, but Shunichirou casually comments that it can't be stopped, and that they're too late. His final words were that he regrets not being able to die in
                            Kaori's home. A few seconds later, explosions can be heard, and the whole area of Jouga was swept away.


★愛別離苦編 [Aibetsuriku Arc]
This is a retelling of the Oni Dwelling Chapter of the Goshikizuka Arc in Isuzu's perspective with slight variations of plot order.

◇夢の終わり [End of the Dream] (TRUE END) Happens almost exactly the same as the true ending for the Oni Dwelling Chapter.


★折鶴比売命編 [Orizuru Himemiya Mikoto Arc]
Nemuru's story arc that depicts another variation of the events in her perspective, exploring her family's past as well as the suffering of the Kamibito.

◇父の火葬 [Father's Cremation] (TRUE END) Nemuru manages to survive the bullet wounds caused by the radicals that were trying to kill Hiroshi. In the end, she was still
                                               unsure of what her feelings for him was. As she sat in her hospital room, she wondered if Hiroshi still thought the same of her. Seeing the great
                                               weather outside and the fragrance of the wind, the thought that one day, her ashes too will fly in the air like the orizuru picked up by the wind. One day
                                               when she woke up, she found flowers beside her bed. The sender was unknown, but from it was the faint scent of mitsu. With that in thought, she believed
                                               she was saved.


★Include in Arc
Retells the Orizuru Himemiya Mikoto Arc in Kushinada Shigetsugu's perspective, revealing his research into the Kamibito's past and his attempt to save the Kamibito race from
their impulses and allow them to live within human society without the need to hide.

◇希望 [Hope] (TRUE END) The arc ends abrubtly as Shinetsugu prepares to meet with the man who calls himself Sakaki Shunichirou for a second time, in the hopes that it will
                                         lead to the salvation for the Kamibito.

★回答編 [Answer Arc]
This arc picks up where the previous arc ends. This is the final "everyone's arc" and retcons the happenings of the previous arc outside of the activities taken by Shigetsugu.
